BOOKBINDING WORKSHOP / Explore the use of locally foraged, biodegradable materials as book covers. In this workshop, driftwood slabs and clam shells will be utilized to make a pair of journals. Exposed spines will be sewn using a combination of kettle, Coptic, and running stitches. Instructor Erica Ekrem bound her first book in 2003 while studying with book artist Dr. Elsi Vassdal Ellis. Erica's most notable work, Book of the Sea, a 100% biodegradable clam shell book is featured in the Paper Project at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Hosted by Bison Bookbinding & Letterpress and Whatcom Museum, Bellingham WA.
